Tributes to Robert Winterhalter

Goodbye Dear Friend

Divine Science has added a new star to the heavens, as we acknowledge the passing of our beloved Dr. Robert Winterhalter. Dr. Winterhalter was a Bible scholar extraordinaire, teacher, Minister, speaker, friend and prayer partner to me, as we served for many years together at the First Divine Science Church in St. Louis, Missouri. One of the kindest, sincere and gentlest men I have ever known, he was devoted and absolutely reliable, as a stalwart of the Divine Science movement. It was my privilege and honor to know him, and I feel certain he is being greeted and celebrated on the other side by legions of angels, and the great ones of God.

We bless you, Robert, on your way. We love you, and are so grateful for all you have given us, and the many, many lives you have touched and illumined.

May You Rest In Peace,
Eternal Friend,

Reverend Roma Carlisle

To the Friends and Family of Rev. Dr. Robert Winterhalter,

I was on the phone with Dr. Robert just last week, and we emailed one another into the weekend on a topic of mutual interest. He was excited about his new book, and was appreciative of our Divine Science Ministers Association's interest in helping him to market it later this spring. His vitality retains my attention, as I offer these words of memorial at this time of his transition:

“Behold, I make all things new.” Rev. 21:5. God is revealing that transition from the earth life to the next phase of life is a natural progression of the soul. Just as a parent provides food before the child is in need, just as a loving parent provides a home even before the child is born, so our loving Father-Mother God has provided a garment, a new body for the soul at transition.

Paul tells us, "There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body." And as we have borne the image of the earthly, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, "death is swallowed up in victory." (Adapted from 1st Corinthians 15:44, 49, 53, 54)

And, finally, a favorite prose piece that speaks of our journey home after this earthly experience:

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads his white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. He is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch him until at length he hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, “There, he is gone.” “Gone where?” Gone from my sight. That is all. He is just as large in mast and hull and spar as he was when he left my side, and he is just as able to bear his load of living freight to his destined port. His diminished size is in me, not in him. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “There, he is gone!” there are other eyes watching him coming, and there are other voices ready to take up the glad shout, “Here he comes!”

God Bless the life of Rev. Dr. Robert Winterhalter!

Amen. And so it is.
Peace and Blessings, Rev. Will

Remembering Dr. Winterhalter

Dr. Winterhalter was an avid supporter of our E-ministry (Symphony of Love) for ten years since its beginning. I always appreciated his comments and insights that he would send regarding one of my essays. Dr. Winterhalter was instrumental in getting me actively involved in INTA. His cards and letters always have meant a lot to me, and his keen intellect and kindness will be cherished in my heart. Dr. Winterhalter's dedication and wisdom will be fondly remembered by those in Divine Science and also in the INTA movement.

DSFI – Tribute to Rev. Dr. Robert Winterhalter

I met Dr. Winterhalter at my first conference of the Divine Science Federation International. We continued our contact throughout these past years, including our many lunch conversations in St. Louis.

In 2008, Dr. Winterhalter was honored for his dedicated service to the teaching of Divine Science, both within the denomination and the organization, the Divine Science Federation. The DSFI service award acknowledged his teaching and writing, service to the Federation, and his living the teaching through service to others. And he did so with loyalty and a kind and generous heart

Known to many of us as a scholar, teacher, mentor, minister, practitioner, colleague or friend – and office manager as well, Robert always made himself available when called upon. He often said, “I will do what ever I can do to further the cause of Divine Science.”

And we trusted him. In my experience, he spoke and acted with pure motives and uncompromising integrity -- and always focused on the teaching of Divine Science.

I will miss our visits and correspondence. Here are words from his last message to me this past month:

“Dear William,
Thank you for sending your comprehensive letter regarding DSFI, and plans to convene in St. Louis. I will definitely attend the Conference on July 19-22 in St. Louis. I am also willing to present a seminar on my new book, The Healing Christ, that will be in print by that time. Understand that it has taken 30 years to find a publisher willing to publish it: I have a contract with Ozark Mountain Publishing in Huntsville, Arkansas. Now that the book is under contract and working toward actual publication, I have greater stability in other areas of my life.
With Every Good Wish,
Robert Winterhalter”

Isn’t it good to know that his works will continue in print for generations and, also more importantly, that the values he lived, his kindness and generosity of spirit will be imprinted on our hearts? And, we will remember him when we gather this July here in St. Louis.

So many of his colleagues and friends at the Federation have expressed their deep appreciation for the love, integrity, wisdom and kindness they experience in Robert. With love and joy, deep appreciation and respect, we remember him.

In closing, let me invoke the words of his teacher and good friend Dr. Irwin Gregg, “Divine Science is not something you learn intellectually – it is something that happens to you when you cooperate with God” (The Divine Science Way, p. 7).

On behalf of the Board of Officers of the Divine Science Federation International and all his DSFI friends and colleagues, we remember Robert for his most generous gifts of service to our teaching. We are blessed and most grateful for his presence with us and the many gifts that we treasure. He always has and always will be cooperating with God.

In Robert's words of closing, let me say to all of you, “Love and Light.”

Remarks by Rev. William Freeman,
President,
